driver da nvidia no linux: o retorno

jah deve ser a terceira vez q eu venho aki nesse fórum só falando desse driver... mas em cada vez foi um problema diferente :-)
é o seguinte: eu jah peguei os drivers (GLX e NVIDIA_kernel) em tar.gz, instalei sem o menor problema, sem erros. fiz as modificações q deviam ser feitas no /etc/X11/XF86config-4, foram elas:

quanto eu entro no X até aparece o logo da Nvidia e tudo, mas quando eu vou lá no mandrake control center o driver usado continua sendo o nv e a placa, uma geforce ddr genérica... qd deveria ser o driver nvidia e a placa geforce2 mx (nem aparece opção pra trocar)

alguém pode me dar mais um help?
se se interessar eu mando o meu xf86confg-4 original e o modificado...
