In conclusion, let me note a couple of important things to do with overclocking. First: many users of the 8RDA+ board after running into issues while overclocking the system through the bus' FSB were trying to overclock the processor through increasing the multiplier. At that, they were facing other issues: when the multiplier is set to 13 (for lower-end Thoroughbred and Barton processors) the system wouldn't start, or even if started it re-set the multiplier to the default original state. The cause of such behavior was in that merely 4 bits were allocated for encoding the multiplier. As a result, the only possibility of setting 'higher' multipliers was connecting the respective pins on the processor (or inside the socket). Since most users are lazy (among them myself , certainly it was the 8RDA+ motherboard to blame for. What's more, on the market there has appeared a nForce II-based motherboard free from this issue (for details of the 5-bit encoding, read the review on the Abit NF7-S motherboard).

Of course Epox fanciers expected the new 8RDA3+ motherboard would have the 5-bit multiplier encoding implemented. But the hopes did not come true - in our board being tested the user is still restricted at selecting the multiplier by 13 (for lower-end processors). Basically, the board allows varying the multiplier between 3 and 24
